[W] Maxis broadband disconnection workaround
Updated: December 5, 2009
ehhehe.. slalu ke disconnect? don’t know la bout u guys/girls, but according to edot, at home, the connection drops at almost every 5 minutes! worse during peak time.
maxis does mention in their so-called “fair” usage policy that they will disconnect u if ur connection idles for a period of time (30 minutes if i’m not mistaken). 30 minit ke 3 minit?? cess..
i googled about this prob and found the solution (i hope) bout 2 weeks ago. all u need to do is change the setting to use a fixed DNS. u can choose to use one of these:
a. maxis fixed DNS:
- primary: 188.8.131.52
- secondary: 184.108.40.206
- primary: 220.127.116.11
- secondary: 18.104.22.168
c. Google Public DNS: * NEW!!
- primary: 22.214.171.124
- secondary: 126.96.36.199
how to set the new connection?
1. in the mobile connect application, click on Settings > Network Connection Settings.
2. Click ‘New’ button.
3. Fill these info:
- Profile name: <whatever u like>
- APN (choose Static): maxisbb
- Number: *99#
- Username: maxis
- Password: wap
- DNS (choose Static): <one of the DNS stated above>
- leave other setting as default
4. click ‘Save’ button
5. that’s it! now connect as usual..
edot have been testing this method for about 1 week now and yes!! no more frequent disconnection! tapi connection lembab tu lain cite la.. tu mmg masalah maxis!
Note: Alternate DNS (selain maxis) tu boleh digunakan utk apa2 ISP (celcom bb, digi bb, streamyx, dll).
