[E] An Indecisive Decision
I have been thinking about this year’s Hari Raya, “Where should we celebrate the first day of Hari Raya? Perak? Or Johor?”
I have told (texted) Ayah that Win and I might spend the first day of Hari Raya in my hometown (Perak) but he said that we should celebrate it in Johor instead.
I was speechless when he replied that.
I started thinking how nice it would be if we spend Hari Raya in Perak. Mak will cook all our favorite dishes, Rendang Pedas Ayam @ Daging, Soto Ayam, Lemang & Nasi Himpit with her finger-licking kuah kacang. I will spend my whole morning of Hari Raya eating every single thing on the dining table. I won’t get fat anyway, I won’t bother. I love Mak’s cooking. I never miss any of Mak’s cooking on the first day of Hari Raya – and I won’t miss it any year. Early in the morning, we will go to the graveyard to visit our relatives who can’t be with us celebrating Hari Raya – we’ll clean the grave and read them Al-Fatihah. After we perform the Hari Raya prayers, we would walk to our relative’s houses and enjoy Laksa, Mee Kari and more lemang. So that’s my Hari-Raya-to-do-list.
I am very lucky to be in a big family of good cooks. I can be ‘me’ when I spend Hari Raya at my own kampung – I don’t have to act nice to please others. I can eat all I want.
To be frank, I am afraid to celebrate the first day of Hari Raya anywhere that isn’t my hometown. Call me ‘anak manja’, mengada-ngada or what-so-ever, I just don’t care.
