[E] It was not that painful
I went through the Pap-test this afternoon and yeah hey~ it wasn’t as painful as I imagined it would be!
Sorry, I think I’ve already given you readers bad impression about the test by my previous entry 😛
Even though the images of any Pap-test you find in Google might look disturbingly painful, but the real thing isn’t really that painful. Painful is not the right word to describe the sensation I felt during the test, uncomfortable is more accurate to describe it.
I went to an ING panel clinic in Taipan as a walk-in patient to get the test for free as it is covered by the Employee Benefit. While waiting for the doctor’s assistant to prepare the tools for the test, the good looking Dr Roshan and I had a little conversation which the bill stated as ‘Consultation: RM10’ .
After the usual chit-chat like, “Have you done the test before?”, “Married?” and “It’s hard to get young woman to take this Pap-test. Usually only after suruh suruh suruh baru nak datang buat test.” we started the real consultation.
“Doctor, will it be painful?” of course, that’s the first thing I wanna know.
“No. It won’t be painful. But you’ll feel a bit.. slightly uncomfortable.”
“Sure? How you know?” I was wondering how does he know how it felt during the test?
“Haha, I don’t know exactly how it feels but I have done the test on many patients before.”
“Okay, this is what gonna happen. Imagine this is your cervix.” joining all his left hand fingers in the middle of the palm imitating a ‘closed flowers’.
“There will be a wooden spatula swabbing the outer tissue of the cervix.” swabbing the tip of the ‘closed flower’ with his right index finger.
“Next, a small brush will be used to get the inner tissue of the cervix.” inserting his right index finger into the ‘closed flower’ and rotate the right index finger 180 degree. At this exact moment, I gave him the what-the-hell-a-brush-in-my-cervix-?? look with my right eyebrow lifted a bit like Ziana Zain does when she’s singing.
“Okay, you may go in now. My assistant will perform the test on you.” referring to his Malay girl assistant.
I was so uncomfortable lying on the clinic bed while being watched by two strangers. One of them might be an intern. It was really really, really awkward.
To cut the long story short, the test ended in less than a minute without any painful sensation but of course, uncomfortable. I just kept staring at the ceiling and thinking of nice things… except the fact that there were two strangers doing ‘things’ – there.
But hey~ I have done the test! And if you’re a girl who is sexually active, you should have one too! Just remember to relax, take a deep breath and then imagine nice things. Or singing might be helpful 🙂
